Mandate

Republic Act No. 6975 (December 13, 1990) established the Bureau of Fire Protection under a reorganized Department of the Interior and Local Government.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is responsible for the prevention and suppression of all destructive fires in buildings, houses and other structures, forests, land transportation vehicles and equipment, ships or vessels docked at piers or wharves or anchored in major seaports, petroleum industry installations, plane crashes and other similar incidents. The BFP enforces the Fire Code and other related laws and investigates all causes of fires and, if necessary, files the proper complaints with the city or provincial prosecutor who has jurisdiction over the case.

Vision and Objectives

“ A modern fire service fully capable of ensuring a fire-safe nation by 2034.”

Objectives:

  1. To intensify fire prevention education program to gain support from the general public and to promote fire   safety consciousness through “OPLAN LIGTAS NA PAMAYANAN”.     
  2. To conduct rigid fire safety inspection to structures, buildings and the like to reduce fire incidents/occurrences.     
  3. To conduct in-service training for fire personnel to enhance management on fire service and effective fire fighting operation.     
  4. To recommend qualified applicants and remove misfits/undesirable members of the organization.     
  5. To conduct fire safety drills to minimize if not eliminate casualties, injuries to the public and firefighters.     
  6. To extend medical assistance to victims of fires, accidents, calamities and other emergency situations and conduct medical missions to depressed areas.

Power and Functions

The BUREAU OF FIRE PROTECTION was created by virtue of R.A. 6975 primarily to perform the following functions:     

  1. Be responsible for the prevention and suppression of all destructive fires on:
    a. Buildings, houses and other structures;
    b. Forest;
    c. Land transportation vehicles and equipment;
    d. Ships or vessels docked at piers or wharves or anchored in major
    e. Petroleum industry installations;
    f. Plane crashes; and
    g. Other similar incidents
  2. Be responsible for the enforcement of the Fire Code of the Philippines (P.D. 1185) and other related laws
  3. Shall have the power to investigate all causes of fires and, if necessary, file the proper complaint with the city or provincial prosecutor who has jurisdiction over the case
  4. In time of national emergency, all elements of the BFP shall, upon direction of the President, assist the AFP in meeting national emergency, and;
  5. Shall establish at least one (1) fire station with adequate personnel, firefighting facilities and equipment in every city subject to standards, rules and regulations as may be promulgated by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG, Sec. 56).

    1. Conducts Oplan Ligtas na Pamayanan on the road.
    2. Formulates Community Fire Protection Plan to different barangays.
    3. Conducts Fire Drills to different establishments.
    4. Daily posting of Fire Safety Tips to Social Media Platforms.
    5. Provide Fire truck assistance during events.

    Fire Investigation and Intelligence Services

    1. Investigate all causes of fire, and if necessary, file the proper complaints.

    Emergency, Medical, and Rescue Services

    1. Responds to vehicular accidents and other emergencies.
    2. Provides Basic Life Support and First Aid Training.
    3. Provides Medical Assistance to different events.
    4. Activates First Aid Service Team

    1. Issuance of Fire Safety Inspection Certificate.
    2. Issuance of Fire Safety Evaluation Clearance..
